Elk feeding Grounds

For a family day on Saturday, we bundled sicko Aud into the car and grabbed the other two. We raced up to see the elk being feed past Naches, it was snowing lightly. The drive was a treat especially with the snow. The kids were fascinated with the elk, they are magnificant beasts I haven't ever paid attention to before. We also saw an eagle up in the trees. We arrived a little late so weren't able to go in the truck tour this time but have promised Nicholas the next time we will. In the visitor's center there is a display of many Stuffed animals, including a few river otters. As many of you know Nic has had a thing for the otter for the past few years. This brought the pleasent excusion to an abrupt halt as Nicholas contemplated the harsh reality of life. My children have such a tender spot for animals, death of anything plays a song of sadness for them. After a few minutes of frustration we continued our excursion up the mountain to White Pass Summit, we were going to go have a bite to eat but the lodge was too busy. Gratefully so because on our way down we stopped at a little reastraunt/lodge called Trout Lodge. They had a fire burning in the wood stove an empty reastraunt with a view of the Yakima River. We were able to enjoy the fire while taking in the view of snow falling softly in the river outside, as the kids had plenty of room to walk around. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxed. A sweet ending to our time together.

Adam (I had to grade papers) went with the Hirschi's to the Elk park this weekend and blogged it. Weird! Sounds like a peaceful beautiful day.
